Do You Have a Safety Net I Can Borrow?

Being around construction most of my life, I’m very aware of the importance of safety nets. Every construction site needs a silt fence to keep the falling debris contained to the area and out of the neighbor’s yard.

Do You Have a Safety Net I Can Borrow?

Have you ever been to see a circus and watched the acrobats fly high above the ground effortlessly, but beneath them, you’ll see a tightly secured net ready to catch them if they fall? They can entertain the audience with their acrobatics knowing that there is a safety net to catch them in case they take a tumble.

Sometimes in life, we feel like we are free-falling, and that feeling is scary. It’s as if we are out of control and there’s nothing to stop us. We are reminded of the quote from Steve Maraboli: “Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don’t.”

What is in your life right now that you feel is out of control? It’s the thing that is on your mind that won’t go away. The thing that you keep trying to figure out a solution for. A relationship, a health issue, or maybe a weakness that you just can’t find the strength to overcome. You feel so out of CONTROL! You are desperately looking for a safety net to catch you as you are falling.

There is comfort given to us by Paul in the book of 2 Timothy 1:7: ”For God gave us a Spirit not of Fear but of Power and Love and Self-control.” Could this be our answer? We already have self-control. We just need to connect with our God-given Spirit. God is our safety net.
