Unexpected Joy

HomeBlogUnexpected Joy

Every once in a while, my sister and I will go on a short, half-day road trip with my parents. Getting away and riding through the county while talking about old times and making new memories is great. On this particular trip, we stopped at “Johnny Ray’s”, formally “The Honey Hog”, in Fallston, North Carolina for some great bar-b-que, checked out South Mountain, got ice cream at Knob Creek Orchard near Toluca, and headed home toward Hickory. These details may not mean a lot to you, but each reminds me of this wonderful day and our blessings.

Unexpected Joy

Near Hickory, North Carolina, we happened upon a roadside market along the way. They had lovely flowers and garden decor. Inside were sundries, local honey, and desserts. Outside, they had tons of handcrafted, painted metalwork in the shape of animals to display in your yard: roosters, pigs, chickens and frogs. My sister got a painted rooster for her yard, but that’s another story.

Why am I reminiscing? Because it takes me back to a place and time where memories were made. Have you let your mind drift away lately? Take a moment to remember a time that brought you joy.
