On a rural road in Menemsha, Martha’s Vineyard, we happened upon some wild turkeys strutting across someone’s front yard. It caught our attention as they proudly strolled over to a tree and then quickly away into the nearby woods. But it was the old, weathered, twisted tree that stood out in the photos. It bore a witness to the passage of time, weathering storms and challenges, yet standing strong with an undeniable grace and resilience.
Looking at the twisted branches reaching in unexpected directions, it reminds me of the unpredictable journeys our lives take. Just as the tree’s trunk has endured twists and turns, we too have navigated the complexities of family, relationships, and social expectations. Life has molded us into unique, resilient individuals. Each branch is a testament to the trials we have faced and conquered. The part of the tree I couldn’t see, but I know is there, are the roots. Like the tree, our roots run deep and keep us standing through all the twist and turns of life.

I think of how I was rooted in strong family support and Christian values. I knew I was loved and that my family and friends had my back. Many were not so fortunate.
As we drove by and continued our trip, I was left with the thought of this common thread, both the twisted tree and I had a unique story, a story of survival and growth even with all the twists and turns.
In (Matthew 24:13) Matthew emphasizes how endurance is a crucial component of survival by standing firm in our faith……..”But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
