Such a busy day, a typical Friday. I’ve been consumed with my to-do-list and my thoughts were somewhere between final emails going out at work and what to do for dinner.
Driving home the traffic was congested because of a rainstorm moving through. Bumper-to-bumper traffic doesn’t put me in an inspirational, praising the Lord, kind of mood if you know what I mean. Then as I rounded a corner there was a beautiful double rainbow leaning against a dark cloud and the colors were brilliant. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. My mind was cleared from the anxiety of Friday afternoon traffic and my mind immediately went back to my childhood memories in Sunday School and the story of Noah.
Isn’t it amazing how the things we learned when we were children have stayed with us, and when reminded will take us back to a place and time where things were simpler? In my mind I went over Noah’s story and how the rainbow was the promise that God would never destroy the earth again with a flood. I can’t tell you how many pictures I colored as a child of the Ark with the animals walking two-by-two off the boat with the rainbow in the sky. (As a side note, my four-year-old granddaughter was in a children’s play about the Ark and she dressed as a bumble bee…. Ok, I never thought about bees on the ark but who am I to judge. She sure was a cute bee.)
I noticed in the scripture something I’d never noticed before. In (Gen. 9:16) God says “Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
Not only was I taken back as I enjoyed this beautiful site, I know now that God is looking at it too. Just think about what He said “I will see it and remember…”. I must admit my attitude changed because I felt I was in the presence of God. Now to many this sounds like a far-fetched story to explain this natural phenomenon, but I chose to believe it this way. I got a surprise blessing today.
When was the last time you saw a rainbow, and how did it make you feel?
