So, you may have seen this cypress tree in photographs before. The tree has become a Western icon and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America.

We decided to drive the loop around Pebble Beach Golf Course just so we could say we had been there. No golfing, of course! Not far from the exit, we passed this beautiful yet strange site. We pulled over to take pictures. It’s stunning with the bay and mountains in the background. It’s fascinating knowing that this tree is thriving on such a rocky foundation, but the thing that makes you stay and stare is the lonely feeling it gives. No other trees are close. The tree you see on the right in the photograph is up near the road; it stands all alone.
Sometimes, we stand alone, and that can be a lonely place. Maybe it’s because of our beliefs, morals, or life decisions. If you are a “lone cypress,” look around you and see the beauty and know that you are special… and know that you are never alone.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deut. 31:6
